JW was on the hanging committee for 21st Autumn Exhibition of Pictures, Corporation of Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, 1891. See for instance #06598, a letter to Beatrix Whistler describing the experience.

This signature is actually made up of the butterfly (in JW's hand) which is shaped rather like a 'W', followed by 'histler', which has been added in pencil by someone else.
