I write a line in great haste my dear Leyland to say that I received the cheque for £100 all right -. for which many thanks -

The room[3] I believe will delight you as it does apparently every body who sees it. - But I have not a moment to write now as I have only just got off [p. 2] my scaffold and shall have to drive to the latest post office in time to get this off tonight. -

Ever Sincerely Yours,

J. A. McN. Whistler

I suppose I shall eventually get down to Speke[4]! - possibly next week -
