I am so very sorry dear Lady Meux about tomorrow - but I am engaged and cannot possibly get off as the dinner is rather arranged with a view to my being there this time!. - tant pis!
In any case I am to see you on Tuesday, so Harriet tells me - now may I whisper in your ear one little thing - that is that on Wednesday I have an [p. 2] appointment with a lady who is coming to be painted - she also comes to town on purpose and I have promised - so do be very charming and fail me not on Tuesday -
I trust you will be quite well and in brilliant spirits that I may catch the particular sparkle in the wonderful eyes I mean this picture to have! -
With a thousand thanks, dear Lady Meux
