Dear Sir,

We are sorry to say you moved in all the negatives[2] we took of you, owing no doubt to the weakness of the light necessitating a long exposure of the plates. We enclose a proof from the best negative - the others are quite useless. If you will [p. 2] kindly make an appointment for another sitting we will take you by the Electric Light, when we shall hope to obtain more fortunate results.

Yours faithfully

Notes:

1.  London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company
An large and established firm of photographers and photographic suppliers. The signature is unfortunately nearly illegible.

2.  negatives
A photograph of JW now in the archives of the Freer Gallery of Art may be the survivor of his photographic session. It was taken in 1878 by the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company and shows slight movement in the pose. It might also be from the return sitting proposed by the Company.
