Notes:

1.  [26 October 1901?]
Dated by the reference to the birthday of a 'younger brother', and by the deep mourning border, which suggests a date after the death of JW's younger brother. The birthday of Ronald Murray Philip (1871-1940), civil engineer, JW's brother-in-law [more], was on 26 October. At that date in 1901 both JW and his in-laws were in London. The envelope has no stamp or postmark.

2.  Elizabeth Robins Pennell
Elizabeth Robins Pennell (1855-1936), née Robins, JW's biographer [more].

3.  younger brother
Ronald Murray Philip (1871-1940), civil engineer, JW's brother-in-law [more].
