[engraving of a woman and two men in a room]

MY DEAR FATHER

you will remember better than I do when I was born on the 4th july 1832. Aunt Alicia[3] was with us then in Lowell, and she has come here again to have some fun on my 10 Birthday.

This afternoon I am to have a party of little friends, and I am so glad you have come home in good time. I have drawn a head of a Russian priest[4] for you. John and Tom Drury[5] have come out here to spend their vacation and I like them very much. Now my dear father as I have told you all that I can think of, I mut [sic] say Goodbye.

James
