Dear Mr Whistler,
You are entirely right - as I might have known you always are! - about the Lithographs. We have received four sets of the 1st Brittany series & it is all right. So that matter is settled with due apologies to you for the trouble. One set [p. 2] came when I was in Glasgow & has not be[en] properly entered.
Herewith is cheque for £29.9.3 & also a note of account showing how that amount is arrived at & as a record. Kindly own receipt.
Many thanks about the Art Journal. From my bourgeois point of view you do such affairs so nicely that in my own mind I cannot help contrasting it - to your great advantage - with another artist who is at this moment very angry with me because I [p. 3] do not like his way of taking every possible monetary advantage of the Art Journal & being surprised that I am human enough & Scottish enough (!) to think that "Giff, gaff makes guid freends". I know your Litho. is really worth more than £10, but it is all the A. J. can pay.
I hope that Way will give us a really good transfer for so much depends on that
Nothing in St James - to-day.
Yours vy truly
