Dear Mr Whistler,

The "Violet & Blue' Among the rollers[2]" has come to hand. It is superb; & we are taking it to Glasgow when we go at the end of the week. The quality of the colour is without exaggeration perfectly wonderful & heart-warming. We shall make [p. 2] a dead set amongst the Scottish folk with it.

We should be glad to have the Water colour[3] also if convenient for we expect to do real business in the North -

If we want an artistic opinion on the value of Burne Jones[4] drawing "Love among the ruins" would you give it, at the risk of having to come to London (expenses paid) to give evidence in open Court!

[p. 3] The man to whom it belonged claims double what he insured it for & of course it is not to be thought of. If he does not come down we shall be compelled to fight & then the fun to outsiders will begin.

What about my lithograph "Sur les Toits[5]["] by J. McN. W. for the Art Journal

Yours very truly
