JAMES R. OSGOOD, McILVAINE & Co.,
PUBLISHERS,
45, ALBEMARLE ST., LONDON. W.

June 9. 1891

My dear Whistler:

I am ill in bed - otherwise I should have sooner acknowledged your kind gift[2], which McIlvaine[3] and I shall always highly value for itself as well as for the motive which prompts your sending it. To be sure, we should feel more happy if we could be conscious of deserving it, but possibly we are suffering from an excess of modesty

Come to Albemarle Street and see it hung up.

Yours very sincerely

James R. Osgood,

James McNeil [sic] Whistler Esq.
