My dear Mac
No wonder you can scarcely believe that I have not seen any Exhibitions nor Catalogues yet - but when it opened I had to go to Scotland & then I got ill & went to Holland & then to Paris & now I am back & shall enjoy myself at the Gallery with your works - though I can [p. 2] assure you that at the Salon I went after each turn back to old Carlyle & the sweet girl in grey, to cleanse my eyes & then home - & old Heilbuth I could have hugged when he said - "Das Einzige dort ist Der Whistlers!["] & I saw Wylde [sic] passing the Café Riche there & voila tout -
As to honors - (to which you congratulate me) - I held only two in my hands! & lost 4 shillings surely
no a cause for - [p. 4] Ich gratulire [sic] lieber Herr?
I feel a Barbarian - almost an Ecossais, not to have seen your Exhibition but remember my dear Mac - I have the Nocturne & the bella Venetia!
Pray forgive hurried thanks for your refreshing letter
J E Boehm
