What is this that Mr Hanson[3] tells me? - that you are having my list[4] copied? -

Why??? -

you told me nothing of this last night - and certainly forgot to ask my permission -

My very dear Mr Secretary pray do not fidget "about many things[5]" !

it gives me such [p. 2] trouble to keep you from over working yourself - and I so much want your energy for other matters -

Of course you will at once wire to stop this business - telling the clerk that time is too precious & that he must not go on -

William's[6] copy such as it is, you will kindly give back to me yourself -

Surely you cannot dream of countersigning or in any way questioning the President's list!! -

I know you don't, and yet these others might understand it in that way and so make awkwardness or even bewilderment an element in your intercourse with them -
