Notes:

1.  Louis Herrman
Louis Herrman (b. 1810 or 1811), of Gilby and Herrman, artists' suppliers, later a picture dealer [more].

2.  253
This document passed with JW's legal papers to James Anderson Rose (1819-1890), solicitor [more]. The documents kept by Rose on each case, or each aspect of a case, were numbered.

3.  £225
Hermann's loan to JW had been negotiated through C. A. Howell. Keeping up payments was an acute problem, reflected in numerous letters, such as JW's letter to Howell on 24 May 1878 (#02778). Hermann was among the creditors listed in the records of the London Bankruptcy Court on 7 May 1879 (#11711).

4.  C. Simms
C. Sims, unidentified.
