Notes:

1.  Arthur Lasenby Liberty
Arthur Lasenby Liberty (1843-1917), designer, founder of Liberty and Co. [more]. JW regularly frequented Liberty's Oriental Warehouse at 218 Regent Street.

2.  bills
This may have been payments not authorised by JW's bank. Liberty seems to have been a patient creditor as several months later, he still seems to have been unpaid (see JW to A. L. Liberty, #02612). See also statements of Liberty's accounts, dated November and 25 December 1878 (#08946, #08962). In addition, Liberty appears on JW's list of creditors in his bankruptcy papers (see #11926). By then, he owed £78. 1. 1.

3.  14 Sepr 1878
Written in JW's hand.

4.  '13'
Written in another unknown hand.

5.  'Various ... [signature]'
Note in JW's hand. It relates to his bankruptcy proceedings. 'Various' is double-underlined.
