9 Sept. 86.

My dear Jimmy,

I was angry & disgusted at the par[agraph]. in V/F[2]. - the more especially so because when once a thing has been printed in the editorial way in a paper it is impossible to contradict & retract it in an editorial way - the theory being that the Editor is one, while the fact is that the writers are many. You may correct facts but not opinions!

What you say as to my statements & offers[3] to you is [p. 2] quite correct & this makes me the more angry. I have sent your letter to the V/F. people & wigged them.

If you will take my advice, it will be best to let a little time elapse & then let me take advantage of something that is sure to turn up to repair the blunder that has been made. I will leave you to give me the hint & I will act upon it.

yours ever

Thos Gibson Bowles
