Jan. 14th 1898.

My dear Mr. Whistler,

You may remember that some time ago you said you might etch a few important plates. If you still entertain the idea, the time is ripe for such a series. I have a Catalogue ready for all the etchings now on hand, and if there was some thing new, a good business might be done.

I am aware that the question of "business" does not enter into the matter at all as far as you are concerned, but it is [p. 2] worth considering, in a way. I was much pleased to receive a letter from Mrs. Pennell[2] some time ago. Pennell[3] was to have been here long ago, (at least so he said when I saw him in London), but I presume the occasion he expected did not arise. I do not know how the little Boldini[4] is doing, but nothing startling, I fancy. The opinion is general that there is a dashing technique, & but little else. I trust that you are well, also the ladies[5] of your family, to whom, please present my respectful compliments.

Believe me, Sincerely Yours
