I consider that Mr. Charles A. Howell[2] has every qualification as a man of business and is replete with the practical knowledge of Art - and I would not ask for any better authority in such matters -

J. A. McN. Whistler.

2 Lindsey Houses.

March. 15. 1872.

1.  ALS
This letter is addressed 'to whom it may concern', but came to Princeton University with a collection of material related to Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882), artist and poet [more].

2.  Charles A. Howell
Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more]. At one time Howell was Rossetti's secretary. In fact JW had reservations about Howell's knowledge of Art and came to mistrust his honesty (see JW to F. R. Leyland, [23 August 1871?], #11867).
