I am sure, Ma'ame, you will be pleased to read this about St Gaudens, whom you always liked. It is indeed a very high distinction - greater than could be conferred in any other part of the world - and St Gaudens does the distinction honour -
I am well enough Major and the "Zona" is much reduced in effect - [p. 2] but I get no 'forwarder' in the great business of the settling of things -
And that is very simple - for I have just dropped everything for the moment because of overwhelming work and the studio absorbs me from morning till night -
This you needn't be alarmed at, "any of you" - for even the friendly British Doctor - (and for an Englishman really a nice fellow!) said that is just what he wishes for me -
Thil has agree that when I wish it we will put up the board - and when he finds another tenant he will take the lease from off my hands - so for the time I am just "letting things slide" -
Only I feel that the Island is heavy upon you both! - and I am not wanting you to become chronically depressed and saddened by the continued spectacle of the strangely dressed native - Moreover I know all that is demoralizing in its effect - and that will never do -
Well this must get off - and we must see about it - things I mean -
Also don't puzzle Major [p. 3] about what is, as I have warned you, intended to bewilder the Islander! so never mind!
Of course this is no moment for further details -
Miss Reubell you see is affectionate about you both in the little note -
Many things to all - in a great hurry
the General -
