19 Sept 1881

To
J McNeill Whistler Esq

Dear Sir

I have looked at the words "The Studios[2]" on the front door - to which you allude & think that instead of being at all objectionable they are pleasantly significant of the very purpose of the structure & have no doubt upon further consideration you will [p. 2] be of the same opinion

I am Dear Sir
Very Truly Yours

Rich Cutting

for Jackson & Graham

The small balance of £1. 11. 6 please send - so moderate & so fair -

1.  Richard Cutting
Richard Cutting, lawyer or clerk with Jackson and Graham, house surveyors and estate agents.

2.  The Studios
JW moved to a studio and rooms at 13 Tite Street at some time in May 1881. Although he signed the lease for the property on 22 March (#02381), there seems to have been continual disagreement over its refurbishment and management. See JW to Jackson and Graham, and reply, #02392, #02393, and further correspondence, including #02381, #02382, #02384, #02386, #02388, #02389.
