TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS

The Exhibition of International Art.

Dear Mr Whistler

On behalf of the Council I have to convey to you its warm appreciation of, and thanks for, your action in accepting the Chairmanship.

Yours faithfully

J McNeil Whistler Eq.

Confidential[3]

Pennell[4] will be approached immediately.

There is some out cry being made [p. 2] about the thinning down of the Exc[u]t[ive] Council, and about the Scotch character it consequently assumes : do you not think it would be politic to add others with Pennell? Would J. J. Shannon[5] be too severe a sacrifice to policy? - I know J. J. S is most loyal to you[6] I hear privately that he would accept if asked. There are of course others more sympathetic T. Austen Browne[7] [sic]. Harrington Mann[8], T Stirling Lee[9] (and we have no sculptor now), Frank Brangwyn[10], H Muhrman[11] [sic], and Peppercorn[12]. And W. Strang[13] - I had forgotten him.

Jef Lambeaux and J Dillens[14] have come on the list of Honorary Members now.

I wonder Why Helleu[15], Fremiet[16], Begas[17], Degas[18], Moreau[19], Fantin Latour[20], Duran[21], and Pradilla[22], have not answered!

Carrière[23] has wired (perhaps I told you) that he will be unable to exhibit.

Do you know Rolsholven[24], and do you think he should be invited?

Horace W. Page[25] is the business man here at present - Admiral Maxses[26] man - and we have kept him on, as he is a good official and the Admiral wanted it.

The Admiral is in Paris now and says he will see you.

F. H.
