MEMORANDUM

FROM
HENRY GRAVES & COMPANY,
PRINTSELLERS AND PUBLISHERS,
6, PALL MALL LONDON, S. W.

LONDON, Nov 21 1888

TO J M Whistler Eq

Dear Mr Whistler

The proposition made by you at the time was if we[2] not you sold the picture we were to share the profits[.] I have not the slightest doubt that my father[3] would not press the point if a sale takes place through us, he will I know be only too glad to get the affair settled and get his money back with interest - The cost of the [p. 2] Carlyle[4] would easily have increased from the 120£ - if that is the amount - by the interest that was owing by Howel[5] [sic] - But if you remember, all that transaction was closed & we started afresh by mutual arrangement at 300

I remain
Yours faithfully

A. Graves
