Notes:

1.  PD/Ms
This appears to be a record of the delivery of pictures between Graves and JW, written on the back of a printed advertisement. In September 1878, JW deposited Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101) and Arrangement in Brown and Black: Portrait of Miss Rosa Corder (YMSM 203) (see notes below) with Messrs Graves as security for an advance of £100 (see C. A. Howell to Graves, #02185). JW may have wished to show them to prospective patrons in his studio (see JW to A. Graves, #10774). The pictures were still with Graves in 1888 (see memorandum, dated about December 1888, #01827).

2.  H. Ribbing
H. Ribbing, employee of H. Graves and Co..

3.  Miss Corder
Arrangement in Brown and Black: Portrait of Miss Rosa Corder (YMSM 203).

4.  Mrs Whistler
Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101).

5.  LANDSEER
Edwin Henry Landseer (1802-1873), portrait, animal and history painter [more].

6.  RICHARD JOSEY
Richard Josey (1840-1906), reproductive engraver [more], who in 1879 engraved Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101). See A. Graves to JW, 26 November 1878, #01798, and subscription form, #02838.
