I am getting off - my dear Sis for a week or so - To-morrow morning probably! Shall cross to Boulogne, and on to little villages along the coast.

But all this was once so different! - There is nothing for me -

Come and talk to me some day. I will let you know

Always my dear little Sis affectionately

J. McN. W.

Notes:

1.  [August 1897/1899]
Dated from the reference to Boulogne. JW spent some weeks painting and convalescing in Dieppe during August and September 1897 and at Pourville, near Dieppe in 1899. The tone of the letter also suggests that the date is shortly after the death of Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more].

2.  Deborah Delano Haden
Deborah ('Debo' or 'Sis') Delano Haden (1825-1908), née Whistler, JW's half-sister [more].
