With regard to the sale of the Pastel Drawings I think the time has now arrived when I shd write you the letter you suggested -
Considering the Expenses that we have been put to with regard to the Gallery &c. we think that the percentage of profit we shd receive [p. 2] shd be 1/3rd of the price obtained for each drawing.
The prices to be settled by you with Mr Brown but he to have a certain latitude given him as to accepting a lesser offer if made -
Marcus B Huish
JW was unhappy with the percentage proposed by Huish: 'I had supposed that the profit you would charge would have been 15 or 20 per. cent on the sales and I now have to say that I will go as far as 25. per cent .' See JW to M. B. Huish, #01123. However, in the end, the pastels sold well at prices between twenty and sixty guineas (see M. Franklin to O. H. Bacher, #10060).
