110. Rue du Bac -

My dear Mrs Peck -

I can only trust that my message to you reached you in time today to prevent your crossing town in vain -

The fact is I had to give up - and send for doctor Herbert[3]! - and all because I hadn't put the sugar [p. 2] candy, your daughter ordered, into the whisky!

However it is all right! I am furnished with a couple of medicines, and hope to turn up again tomorrow -

I will send a wire in the morning -

With kindest regards to yourself and the future Duchess[4]
Very sincerely

J McN Whistler
