Paul Lemperley was a bibliophile and print collector. He married Emma L. Warner on 19 April 1881 at Cuyahoga, Ohio.
Lemperley was a friend of Godfrey Locker-Lampson of Rowfant in Sussex. He possibly met JW while he was in the Mediterranean about 1900. His address appears on the inside of JW's Algerian sketchbook from this time (#13384). In August 1900 he asked JW for his autograph for insertion in his copy of The Gentle Art of Making Enemies (1890). In April 1907 Rosalind Birnie Philip, JW's executrix, came across a book plate and letter from JW to Lemperley while looking through JW's papers. They were in a sealed envelope addressed to Lemperley but had not been sent. She forwarded them to him. His collection of bookplates and other engravings was exhibited at The Rowfant Club in Cleveland in 1911. His publications include Among my Books (1929) and Books and I (1938).
