Lillian Jane Henschel was a celebrated American soprano. She married the Hungarian composer and baritone George Henschel in 1881 and worked closely with him in concert and recital.
Henschel was a pupil of the soprano Hermine Rudersdorff and later of Mme Viardot-Garcia. She made her concert debut in Boston in 1876 and and went on to establish a successful career. Just before her marriage in Boston in 1881, she and her future husband appeared as Gretchen and Mephistopheles in Berlioz's La damnation de Faust (1880).
