William H. Gadsby was a London domestic genre painter.

Life:

Gadsby exhibited between 1869 and 1913 at the Royal Academy, British Institution and Dudley Gallery in London, as well as at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Royal Scottish Academy, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery.

In 1876 Gadsby was elected a member of the Society of British Artists, which elected JW its President in 1886. In September 1887 he is mentioned in a letter to JW from the Society, which had received a Royal Charter in July of this year, Gadsby's having written a letter to the Society concerning the proposed exhibition of works by the late F. H. Potter in the winter exhibition and this having been read out in September business meeting (#05303).
