1. [April 1879?]
This probably dates from just after the letter from G. and W. Webb to JW, 31 March 1879, #12784. The number '213' written on it (see below) indicates that it predates another undated document numbered '216' (#11907).
2. H. K. Cone
H. K. Cone, employee of the North Metropolitan Building and Investment Co..
These pages are in a small card covered book stamped with the title of the company and with a label stuck on inscribed 'J A McN Whistler Esq-'. '213' is written in another hand, in a circle at top of p. 1. Legal documents, including those relating to JW's bankruptcy, were collected and numbered by James Anderson Rose (1819-1890), solicitor [more].
4. NORTH METROPOLITAN
They held JW's mortgage on the White House, his new house and studio in Tite Street, and were among his creditors when he was declared 'insolvent' on 6 May 1879. The auction of his belongings was held in the White House on 7 May, and the house itself was sold in 18 September.
5. G. & W. WEBB
Solicitors representing the Building Society, who later worked for JW.
