Dear Sir,

Yourself & Way[3]

Mr Way gave up every thing except the "trial proofs"[4] (14) which are by the custom of the trade his property, & which he would not deliver up, & we could not compel him to do so, nor would we imperil the settlement of the matter or the obtaining of the lithographic stones by insistance [sic].

In your absence we were obliged to use a certain amount of discretion.

All the lithographs except the above [p. 2] are at Goupils[5] & Mr Way gave us a letter to Goupils authorizing them to hand over all the lithographs to you & account to you for all sold as from 27th May last.

Yours faithfully

Geo & Wm Webb
