Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more].
The letter was stuck in the first of two albums of documents by C. A. Howell (see #02788). The envelope was sent by hand.

'The Owl' very ill in bed (M.704). Howell wrote underneath the sheet: 'Myself - "The Owl" - Very ill in bed, with swollen face - CA.H.'
Probably William McNeill Whistler (1836-1900), physician, JW's brother [more].
