Glasgow

19 April 1903

My dear Sir

It is with very great regret that I have received from your doctor[2] a corroboration of your own decision that it would be unsafe in your present state of health to venture a journey to the north[3] - Your coming had been looked forward to [p. 2] by many beyond the bounds of the University, with much interest, and your absence will cause universal regret.

In the circumstances I have much satisfaction in saying that the Senate sympathising with the cause that detains you in London have resolved to bestow on you the honorary degree of L. L. D. in absentia - This will be done on Tuesday at the graduation which [p. 3] closes our Winter Session - The Diploma will be sent to you in due course -

Believe me
My dear Sir
very faithfully yours

R. Herbert Story
