I greatly appreciate and value the notable and most flattering compliment paid me by your personal letter[4] of immediate congratulation, on the bestowal of the high honour upon [p. 2] myself, by the University of Glasgow -

I trust indeed that I may be allowed to be present at the august ceremonial, but I do not at all know - for I am deeply in the hands of other Doctors! - who may, at any moment, order me off to what they fancy is the South! -
