THE UNIVERSITY
GLASGOW

20 Feb: 1903

Dear Sir

I am merely anticipating by a day or two an official information[2] which will reach you presently from the Clerk of the Senate of this University, but I wish to have the pleasure of announcing to you [p. 2] that the Senate has this day resolved to confer on you the honorary degree of doctor of Laws, the highest distinction which it is in the power of the University to bestow. I trust that this expression of the value of the distinguished services which you have rendered [p. 3] to art, & tribute of admiration of your character & career will not be unacceptable to you, & that you will be able to receive the degree in person at the Graduation on the 21st of April next.

It may interest you to know that the resolution to offer you this degree was passed by the Senate unanimously [p. 4] & cordially -

Believe me
dear Sir
very faithfully yours

R. Herbert Story

Principal & Vice Chancellor.
