Valvins, par Avon (Seine-et-Marne)

Dimanche soir jusqu'au 5 Octobre

Cher ami

Translation:

Dear friend,

I have received the two portraits; really, one is more pleasing than the other.. I put the French article and the original pieces in an envelope straight away and sent them to Mirbeau, for one of the two big newspapers Figaro or Echo de Paris to which he contributes. Being in the country, I would only have had literary reviews to hand, which appear at intervals which are too long. I have been told (I shall try to obtain the issue, but to be on the safe side you should subscribe to the clippings here) that le Rappel had reproduced a paragraph from a London newspaper; from the right side, yours.

All this is fast and too indirectly to you.. I shall keep you up-to-date.

Stéphane Mallarmé

In this haste, I have not even said thank you for having given me so much information, I understand clearly and congratulate you.
