Dear Huish -
The last suggestion of the Board, hinting at my occupying your printer's time with my own work[2], is simply too mean & disgraceful for me even to answer -
I have called lately really in your own interest - to tell you that, by accident, I had one or two days this week at your disposal - These chances, of course, are rapidly becoming rarer as the time of exhibition[3] draws near - If I had had an immediate answer [p. 2] after our conversation I could have given yesterday and today to the printing - and there still remained Friday & Saturday. -
However as after all your note[4] just now handed to me contains doubtless the ultimatum of the Society, you have only to send at once for the plates - and rely upon Mr Goulding[5] or others for "Nocturnes" & "Doorways", "Beggars" & "Lagoons" -
I need scarcely say that, once any proof [is] pulled by any one else, I should, under no circumstances, be induced to print from the degraded plate -
Yours truly
J. McNeill Whistler
