the engraving the large picture of Mrs Meux

4. portrait of my Mother
Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101). On 9 September 1878, this was one of two pictures deposited by Howell as security on a loan of £100 from Graves (see A. Graves to JW, 9 September 1878, #01797).
5. picture of Mrs Meux
Harmony in Pink and Grey: Portrait of Lady Meux (YMSM 229). JW planned to exhibit the picture at the 6th Summer Exhibition, Grosvenor Gallery, London, 1882 (cat. no. 48). He may have hoped that the Grosvenor would provide publicity for an engraving venture. Several engravers worked for the firm, including Henry Graves's brother, Robert Graves (1798-1873), line engraver [more]. However, the portrait of Lady Meux was not, as far as is known, engraved.
