If the 'Godwin' referred to is E. W. Godwin then this letter must be dated before October 1886 when Godwin died, and the most likely date would be the start of 63rd Annual Exhibition, Society of British Artists, London, 1886. However the reference to 'etchings' suggests a later date, in November 1887.

The galleries of the Society of British Artists were on Suffolk Street. JW may mean etchings exhibited or published by himself or by others. He did not exhibit any etchings at the SBA until Winter Exhibition, Royal Society of British Artists, London, 1887-1888, when he exhibited 'Naval Review set', 1887 (K. 316-331) (excat 7), (cat. nos. 506-510) and various lithographs.
