KING WILLIAM STREET,
STRAND, W. C.

But why my dear Edmund, why! -

Do you refuse to be 'in it' with the Butterfly's brilliant career - or will you only know him, when he 'lights' upon Atlas' inkstand? -

Godwin[3] sent you a paragraph this very last Sunday

This very last Sunday upon [p. 2] the new etchings just born into life in the galleries of Suffolk[4] Stree[p?] - and you expunged that paragraph!

Notes:

1.  [March 1886?]
If the 'Godwin' referred to is E. W. Godwin then this letter must be dated before October 1886 when Godwin died, and the most likely date would be the start of 63rd Annual Exhibition, Society of British Artists, London, 1886. However the reference to 'etchings' suggests a later date, in November 1887.

2.  Edmund Yates
Edmund Hodgson Yates (1831-1894), novelist, 'Atlas' columnist and editor-proprietor of the World [more].

3.  Godwin
Edward William Godwin (1833-1886), architect and designer [more].

4.  galleries of Suffolk
The galleries of the Society of British Artists were on Suffolk Street. JW may mean etchings exhibited or published by himself or by others. He did not exhibit any etchings at the SBA until Winter Exhibition, Royal Society of British Artists, London, 1887-1888, when he exhibited 'Naval Review set', 1887 (K. 316-331) (excat 7), (cat. nos. 506-510) and various lithographs.
