'68A' 'No. 76'[3]

Beaumont Lodge,
Wood lane, Shepherd's Bush.

Tues. Oct. 10. 71.

My dear Jemmy,

I was sorry again not to be able to go to see you on Sunday - but I am so busy just now. - I went to the Dudley[4] at the end of last week, but too late alas! to be of any use, for the pictures were most of them hung. One of yours[5] is properly placed, but the other "the moon-light"[6] seems to have riled the hangers for they have placed it badly.

[p. 2] Had it been possible for me to be present at the hanging I would have gone, but my time is completely taken up -

- If you think my opinion worth anything, perhaps you will allow me to say how very much I admire both the paintings, but especially the moonlight, which renders the poetical side of the scene better than any moonlight picture I ever saw. I wish I had been there to see justice [p. 3] done to it -

Very truly yours

Edward J. Poynter.
