Dear Mr. Whistler,

I intend to open on the 20th inst., in my galleries, an Exhibition[2] of about 150 of the best pictures by Messrs. Monet[3], Renoir[4], Sisley[5] and a few others and of sculptures of Mr. Rodin[6]. -

Most of these pictures would be lent by amateurs. -

Would you be disposed to lend me a few of your works for this Exhibition? Please let me have your reply by return. -

I will lend my rooms [p. 2] for one month and undertake the advertisement, press and invitations without any charge to the Exhibitors.

I trust I will receive your favourable answer on Friday morning; I will then be exactly decided as to the Exhibition and able to wire you, if needed, for the forwarding of your works.

I remain, Dear Mr. Whistler,
Your's very truly.

Paul Durand Ruel

Would you also be kind enough to give me the names of a few amateurs, having pictures of your's & where I could address myself, in your name, in case they would be willing to lend the pictures.
