Dear Mr. Addams -

First - I was in London when your letter^[4] came - and was to see Mr. Webb^[5] before leaving town -

Yesterday morning then I took him your letter with enclosures -

The result will be told you - [p. 2] and will probably end in a severe reprimand to the Bradley people^[6] - who doubtless have been "attempting" something! Mr. Webb is "legal advisor Hon. Solicitor to the International Society^[7] - and I think you need trouble no further about it -

The two Apprentices^[8] were "invited" to exhibit - and the Society pays the transport of works, in such case, to & from the Galleries - About the insurance I am not certain - but as you were not consulted, I think you can quite the Bradleys cannot make you pay a penny! - In any case you will be taken care of thoroughly -

So that's all right -

[p. 3] I cannot sit up tonight to write more - but there is much for you to do for me! - if you will! -

It concerns the Kelly^[9] people - really Kelly himself - He has made a woeful hash of everything - as far as his work went - and devoted his capacity to making out a masterly bill! -

This we (Mr. Webb & I) wish to consult M. Olivier^[10] about - whose card I enclose - we think that you had better call upon him for me [p. 4] but I will write full instructions tomorrow - when I send also the papers -

Meanwhile kindest things to you both, with congratulations to Mademoiselle Dianne^[11] upon her fine manner at the Ceremony - & thanks for her pretty present! Also tell her Mama that her letter has much amused and interested me - and I will write -

That is, Clifford Addams and Inez Eleanor Addams (fl. 1898-1927), née Bate, painter [more]. Inez Addams became legally articled to JW as an apprentice on 20 July 1899 (see indentureship, #00019). Clifford Addams became JW's second apprentice in c. April 1901.

7.  Bradley people
Possibly a picture agent or carrier.

8.  International Society
3rd Exhibition, International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, London, 1901, to which the Addams had submitted work.

9.  Kelly
Kelly, lawyer, partner in Boddington and Kelly, a Parisian legal firm. This relates to some counterfeit lithographs that were offered to the Addams in Paris (see JW to I. Addams, #00085). Kelly was also involved in JW's attempt to pursue Carmen Rossi, model, proprietess of the Académie Carmen [more], whom he suspected had been pilfering works from his studio (see R. Birnie Philip to JW, #04824).
