Notes:

1.  [1/28 February 1881]
This letter was written during an exhibition of Whistler's Venetian work, suggesting a date of December 1880, February 1881, or February 1883 (see below). However, another letter to Blunt is dated 7 April 1881 (#09256), suggesting February 1881 as the most likely date.

2.  Arthur Blunt
Arthur Cadogan Blunt (ca 1861 - d.1934), artist [more].

3.  Published
Unidentified sale catalogue (cat. no. 1921), described as an 'ALS ... 1 page, oblong, 8vo ... circa 1881', for sale at £4.10.0.

4.  Bond Street
The 'Riva' suggests the Riva degli Schiavoni in Venice; pastels such as The Little Riva; in opal (M.749) and Nocturne - The Riva (M.799) were included in Venice Pastels, The Fine Art Society, London, 1881.
