Notes:

1.  [13/20 April 1898?]
This was written on a visiting card with a mourning border, thus dating from after the death of Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more], or of William McNeill Whistler (1836-1900), physician, JW's brother [more]. It may date from Maxse's trip to Paris in April 1898 (see his letter to JW, 11 April [1898], #02296).

2.  Giovanni Boldini
Giovanni Boldini (1845-1931), portrait painter and etcher [more].

3.  PLc
Published in Boldini Inedito, Grafis, 1982, p. 12, repr.

4.  Maxse
Admiral Friedrich ('Frederick') Augustus Maxse (1833-1900), political writer [more]. He probably intended to contact Boldini in connection with plans for the Exhibition of International Art, International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, London, 1898.
