My dear Maus -
I had hoped to pay you a little visit this time - but it was impossible!
And now I am most anxious about my Sarasate picture[3] - though of course I know that it must be all right - for you promised me that it should go on from your exhibition[4] to the Salon - Therefore doubtless you have already sent it - for you all [p. 2] know that the last[5] day for receiving it there is the 13th or 14th -
I wouldn't miss it for any thing - It ought to have gone to the care of Durand Ruel[6] - unless you have sent it to the care of an Agent of your own - as I trust you have - for it would not have been safe to send it to the Salon[7] unless in the charge of some one - at least I fancy so - Do forgive my anxiety and write to me or telegraph a word at once -
Duran[d] Ruel is you of course know the Editeur, marchand de tableux[8] in Paris I think Rue de la Paix - or Rue Castigliani -

Arrangement in Black: Portrait of Señor Pablo de Sarasate (YMSM 315) was sent successfully to Paris and exhibited under the title 'Portrait.' (cat. no. 2450), apparently under the care of M. Toussaint, probably a Paris dealer. It was JW's only submission to the Salon in 1886.
