My dear Mr Whistler /
You are Sweetness & Light in person to remember your poor old disabled admirer, & I only wish I could have been among the favoured of Friday[2]. But I am still far too weak & "silly" to venture out even in the day time, not to speak of [p. 2] the evening, though I am striding on towards recovery in seven leagued boots[3] - no less! - I have been almost dead with congestion of both lungs, but now, I am healed & have only to get strong: Meanwhile my thanks good wishes & sincere - may I say affection? - to [p. 3] your brilliant self & may your sun shine for ever in an unclouded sky & your shadow never grow less! -
