Arrangement in Black: La Dame au brodequin jaune - Portrait of Lady Archibald Campbell (YMSM 242) was exhibited at 8th Summer Exhibition, Grosvenor Gallery, London, 1884 and 103rd exhibition, Ouvrages de peinture, sculpture, architecture, gravure et lithographie des artistes vivants, Palais des Champs Elysées, Paris, 1885. A photograph of the painting was published by JW in 1892 in an album Nocturnes, Marines and Chevalet Pieces (pl. 19; see also Pennell, Elizabeth Robins, and Joseph Pennell, The Life of James McNeill Whistler, 2 vols, London and Philadelphia, 1908, vol. 2, p. 126) and an engraving by Muther in 1893 (Muther, Richard Geschichte der Malerei im XIX Jahrhundert, 3 vols, Munich, 1893-94, ('Whistler und die Schotten,' Vol. III, Chap. XLVIII, pp. 522-37), vol. 3, p. 523).
