The envelope was sent by hand and has no stamp or postmark; however, it has a deep mourning border, indicating a date after the death of Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more].
'85C' is written in an unknown hand in red ink at top left; and '185' in pencil at bottom right of p. 1.
