Dear Mr. Thomson -
I am awfully disappointed with the frame! and Mr Studd who is going tomorrow takes it back with him - So you had better send to his place for it the first thing on tuesday morning - You know, 97. Cheyne Walk -
Now can any thing be more stupid on the part of the maker, than not only to have sent no glass, (& the case was beautifully packed) but the frame is not made to take a glass - Unless [p. 2] they were mad enough to suppose that the glass was to be dropped in simply at the back, and stick bang upon the face of the oil painting! This is so - for I took out the small nails that appeared to hold in the last rabbit - between which & the body of the frame, the glass should go, and it would not come out!! glued in! Indeed on looking carefully at the face of the frame you will see that the gilding is continuous - not a hairs crack any where to show the fitting of the last rabbit that ought to take out, for the glass - In short like the one in the New Gallery which they were to copy - Of course the other frames must be all altered as well as this one - Dont send them down - but have them ready & I will wire when I shall want them in Town - So much for the present - for this must catch post -
Only I think 3 gs. awfully dear - Surely two pounds 5 - or at most £2-10. is quite enough!
You will see Mr Studd.
