Dear Mr. Pearsall -
I regret that I cannot accept your kind and very flattering invitation to the opening Concert[3], but I find that it would be impossible for me to leave London during this next month -
I hope however to visit you in January, and believe I may undertake then to make one or perhaps two lectures[4] as you propose -
As the time approaches I will let you know, that it may be announced in the papers -
Meanwhile, though I had a year or two ago quite [p. 2] an Exhibition in Paris[5], you may certainly say that I have never sent such a large collection of works to any gallery in the 'United Kingdom', out of London -
The arrangement and hanging of the pictures, I am sure you will manage perfectly - and upon the whole it is just as well that I could not send the drapery from Bond Street (where it is still in use at Messrs. Dowdeswells[6]) for it would perhaps have only interfered with the ensemble of your room, and cut it up too much -
I am quite charmed dear Mr Pearsall at the strong interest and sympathy you have shown, and I mean to come over to Dublin if only to thank you for all the trouble you have taken -

Possibly Exposition Internationale de Peinture, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, 1883. The previous substantial showing of his work had been in [Exposition], Galerie Durand-Ruel, Paris, 1873.
