TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS, -
"PICTURES, LIVERPOOL."
[Liverpool coat of arms, and motto:] DEUS NOBIS HAEC OTIA FECIT

CITY OF LIVERPOOL,
WALKER ART GALLERY,

189

I am quite worn out my own dear Luck - and they are all in an awful hurry to get off - so that I have only time to tell you that your little letter came to keep me up for the day - and that I have had a wire from the Goupils[3] to say that the B.[4] is on her way down. -

Well a great part of the Academy room is hung - and I fancy that the mischief of the intention is clothed in a certain delicacy - indeed so subtle is it, that perhaps after all it will be scarcely perceived! - However there it is -

As much ridicule and exposure has been brought [p. 2] to bear upon the false sentiment and execrable colour drawing and execution, as one's nerves could tolerate - and then the wretched frauds are nailed to barn doors for those to see who can understand! - Very few after all -

The people here are to give us their dinner on Wednesday next and then I am off to you again my own dear Chinkie -

We may have a laugh or two out of it but it is a dreary affair at best! -

What am I to ask if the Council propose to buy the Fur Jacket[5]? - You saw that Thomson[6] was thinking of £1600. -

I saw a letter from Leighton[7] asking £1800, for his Andromeda -

I must leave with the others now Chinkie my own dear Luck and have only time to say Goodnight and God bless you!.

Your fond
