James Macneil [sic] Whistler Esq
Dear Sir
The enclosed[2] is a copy of the draft of a petition which we Glasgow men wish to present to the picture purchase committee of the Corporation of this City - But first of all would you kindly let me know if your [p. 2] picture[3] is still for sale -
If it is so I feel sure that the petition will be strongly supported by the members of the Glasgow Art Club who have considerable influence in this City. It has been my earnest hope since your picture was here in our International[4] to present this petition and the favourable moment has arrived to do so, as the Corporation have now a [p. 3] considerable sum of money at their disposal for the purchase of pictures and have consequently formed a committee out of their own body for this purpose
Hoping you will favour me with an early reply[5]
I am
yours faithfully
E. A. Walton
P. S I will be glad if you have any suggestions to make with regard to the enclosed.
E. A. W.
